5 Tips to Find and Land A New Job In 2021

Jan 11, 2021

The long rest is over, and you have had it with 2020! It is now back to reality. For some of us, the harsh reality of having to make up for all the wasted time and resources that the pandemic has brought upon us was truly an eye-opener. Despite all of that, you made it to 2021 and we are so proud of you for that!

Since it’s “new year, new me.” This time might just be right to seek new opportunities, make a career change, or level up in our professional lives. If you need a sign right now, this is it! Leave behind all the negativity and the toxicity back in 2020 and focus on the now.

This past year may have given you a lot of stress due to the pandemic. It may have given you a hard time to look for opportunities and had your plans left on the back burner. Don’t you worry! Here at Nezda, we will make sure that we can help you start fresh to prepare for the new year. Here are 5 tips on how to find and land a new job in 2021.

Always do your research.

It always helps to do your research before going in a job interview, or even before you pass your job application. When searching for job opportunities, other than looking for openings that have qualifications that fit your descriptiondo research on the company’s values. Make it a point to always check the legitimacy of the job posts by looking at the company's websiteespecially when you are on online job portals such as Jobstreet, Glassdoor, LinkedIn, and many more. There are tools to ensure that you are directing your job search toward companies that align with your values. Aim to apply to companies that provide fair and inclusive work environment.

Don’t be afraid to ask for what you’re worth

It’s 2021. Time to pick yourself up and take risks! Calculated risks, actually. Don’t be shy or afraid to negotiate your salary with your recruiter or ask your boss for a promotion. It should be part of your research to know about the value of your role and comparable salary ranges. The key is not to be shy to ask about it and use data to support your position in any negotiationCompanies are absolutely willing to pay a higher rate for the right person.

Pandemic setbacks are a huge issue by most companies but it should not prevent you from getting the salary you rightfully deserve.

Flexibility is key!

Companies are always after candidates that have flexible skills. Having this is a big advantage and an extremely important attribute to market yourself to your future employers. This helps companies, especially ones that were struck financially by the pandemic where they don't have enough money to hire an entire team. This will surely help you stand out among other candidates.

Another attribute that employers are looking for in a candidate is their independence and ability to take on tasks that require collaboration. Since the pandemic started, remote work has been implemented by many companies. Although companies still want a collaborative approach, having independent remote employees help these companies, especially since the implementation of remote work can compromise the productivity of employees. Showing a hiring manager that you take initiative and do things independently is vital nowadays.

Aim for growing industries.

The Covid-19 pandemic has a major negative impact on many sectors. Many companies have resorted to closing down or downsizing their employees because of financial constraints. When looking for a job nowadays, consider looking toward industries that are thriving amidst the pandemic. For some of you that are considering to risk it and make a career change, it would be advantageous to look toward careers in industries like; E-Commerce, Healthcare, Tech and telecommunications. Companies under this sector have been booming despite the negative impacts of the pandemic. Companies like Nezda have massive tie-ups with these companies to give more and more people job opportunities in these trying times.

Think positive!

As the famous Japanese proverb goes, “Fall down 7 times, get up at 8.” No matter how many times you plan on giving up, just know that good things happen to those who wait and persevere.  Don’t be afraid to job hunt if it’s time for something new. Nothing should stop you from starting your job search, not even the pandemic.  It never hurts to see what possibilities are in store for you this year. The sooner you start looking, the better chance you have of finding a better fit. So, get on it!

After all the mess that is 2020, you deserve to have all the opportunities lined up for you and give yourself the chance to find your dream job. Even though times are still rough and we still have a lot to deal with right now, keep in mind that opportunities knock when you least expect them. As early as now, prepare yourself for these possibilities to open new doors. Have a happy new year! Here's to bigger and better opportunities in 2021.
