Tips in Finding a Job This Holiday Season

Nov 24, 2020

by: Cherra Yebron, Marketing & Communications Associate

The holiday season is fast approaching but the global pandemic is not yet over. It has truly been such a tough time navigating through this ongoing situation. Many people lost their jobs and people who were looking forward to starting a career seem more discouraged than ever. Regardless of how things are today, we are here to tell you that there is still hope! You can still get a job and save up money just in time for the gift giving season.

You can still manage to find a good job even during the holiday season. It will not stop employers from accepting applications and seeking out suitable candidates. Most of them are even on the lookout to potentially increase their seasonal workforce and you might just be the one they're looking for!

It is a common misconception that companies are likely to not accept applicants because they are unwilling to pay the usual holiday premiums or the mandated holiday bonuses. However, it should not stop you for finding a job. There are still tons of companies out there that are still hiring because they see the holiday season as a potential to earn more.

Despite of what you or other people think about finding a job during holidays, we still recommend you to give it a go because opportunities are everywhere any time of the year. You would not want to miss on that!

Here are 5 tips in finding a job this holiday season.

Search for online job portals and reach out to recruitment agencies through social media. If you are one of those people that believe that there are no companies hiring during holiday months, you should consider looking for job postings on the internet. During the holiday season, most companies are focusing on strengthening their online presence through marketing and advertising online, most especially amidst the pandemic.  Do a quick Google search on which companies are hiring right now orsearch for key search items like “WFH Jobs”, “Jobs for ____ graduates”, or “companies hiring in (location)” and many more. Through that quick search, you will come across hundreds of websites where you can scroll though different vacancies. There are websites that offer thousands job applications everyday such as Jobstreet, Indeed, Kalibrr, Glassdoor, LinkedIn, and even on Facebook! On there you can find multiple  recruitment companies such as Nezda, that are consistently posting job vacancies at any time of the year.

If you see an ad for part-time jobs or seasonal hiring, go grab the opportunity! Lots of companies might have end of year commitments leaving employees being out of the office with projects that need to be accomplished by the end of the year. They might consider looking for part-time employees to job these jobs quicker. Look for staffing agencies to find out if anything in your field is available and do not hesitate to try out applying for part-time jobs. It is  great opportunity for you to get your foot in the door and show off your skills to get into consideration for future positions.

Reconnect with old Facebook friends and try networking. Most jobs come from good networking and connections. There may be a chance that one of your old acquaintances from high school or college might have a good opportunity for you or recommend you to other companies that they have connections withTru hitting them up by shooting them. A quick personal message. Ask them how they are holding up in this pandemic then tell them honestly how your current situation is. Do not be shy to try and ask for a little help in looking for a job because, who knows,  it just might help you.

Try networking during holiday parties or gatherings. Despite our current dilemma with the coronavirus outbreak, it isn't a sin to have small gathering with family and friends as long as everyone is following good health and safety precautions. Do not miss this opportunity to ask some of your friends or family for help regarding your holiday job hunt. Remember to have fun while you are at it! It might be off putting to some that you are at a party and talking about work but it wouldn’t hurt to tryRemember to keep it subtle and casual, especially if you are at a party with other potential employers. It is a bonus if you are going to leave a good impression.

Arrange your schedule and make time for potential interviews. When you are on a holiday job hunt, you will likely be asked for an opportunity to get interviewed for a job you applied for, so be prepared for those. Make sure you free all your schedule for the weeks to come and dedicate those dates for interview schedules. The worst case scenario would be missing an interview because you went out last night to meet with friends at a party. If you can, try to sacrifice those schedules for your job hunt. It would be best to start searching around November and schedule interviews on December  so you will make it just in time to celebrate Christmas or New Years Eve free of errands.

The holiday season is a time for you to bond with your family and share the Christmas spirt with your loved onesWe would encourage you to not worry too much about trying to get a job but tough times call for tough decisions. If you really need to go out there to find for a job, we will right be here to support you!
