Gen Z

According to Lieca Mendoza (Recruitment Supervisor), “Technology has made a significant impact to Gen Zs. It made everything available on the tip of their fingers evolving them to be the one who will innovate technology for the greater future making the impossible possible. Gen Z surely exploits the use of technology to create a smarter, energy-saver, time efficient, high-tech life assistance for the next generation. Gen Z in the workplace learns how to work smart by doing shortcuts using the technology they grew up in, to ensure that they are using their time efficiently. Aside from being the tech savvy, they are also full of energy to create and host events that will elevate the workplace’s camaraderie.”

Gen Z has different expectations about tech industry hiring than previous generations. They have a greater preference for remote work and digital technology and expect employers to provide flexible working arrangements.

Catherine Duero (Recruitment Team Leader) mentioned that “the rise of technological innovations and AI advancement surrounds connectivity, access & use of data, and application integration. Ways of living have been strategically maneuvered, highlighting the advantageous effects and impacts especially to Gen Zs. With these technological positive offers, their perspectives in life goals specifically in achieving their career is somehow align with the technological trend and demand. Their adaptability is as feasible as technology features and use is at constant change. Gen Z people’s discipline is challenged too. As one must be accountable and responsible using technology solutions.”

Gen Z Values Work-Life Balance and Flexibility.
It is no secret that the tech industry has long prided itself on long hours and grueling deadlines. But with Gen Z entering the workforce, it is quickly changing. As a generation who grew up with an abundance of options and chances to express themselves, Gen Z values work-life balance and flexibility much more than their predecessors. And tech companies are taking notes.

Major tech companies like Google, Microsoft, and Apple have all made changes to their hiring practices in recent years to cater to the Gen Z workforce. These changes include offering remote work opportunities and flexible work schedules to allow for better work-life balance. They have also put a greater focus on diversity, inclusion, and collaboration—all things that are important to Gen Z people.

In addition to providing a better work-life balance for their employees, these changes help tech companies stay ahead of the competition and attract top talent from Gen Z who are looking for more than just a paycheck—they are looking for an employer that values them as an individual and creates an environment where they can thrive.

Remote Work and Flex Schedules Are Non-Negotiables.
As Generation Z enters the workforce, one thing is for sure: They’re not afraid to demand what they want from their employers.

What is one of the biggest demands from Gen Z? It is the flexible work arrangements, including remote work and flexible hours. That is because Gen Z people appreciate a work-life balance and there is no better way to achieve that than by doing away with rigid 9-5 office hours and allowing employees to arrange their schedules according to their needs. Flexibility not only empowers employees, but it also leads to improved morale, greater job satisfaction and increased productivity.

And when it comes to remote work, Gen Zs are used to connecting with people all over the world via social media and other digital platforms. As such, they understand that working remotely does not mean sacrificing communication or collaboration, they are used to connecting with people virtually and know how to make it work in a professional setting.

Aira Canlas (Recruitment Team Leader) said that “Businesses are adapting to innovative technologies to attract and retain top talent because flexible schedules and remote work appeal to Gen Z.  This generation prioritize work-life-balance and purposeful employee experiences that will enhance their skills. Organizational platforms and other tech tools will make their professional lives easier. They also like to engage with brands that advocate the values that they align with, and this is why companies must remain relevant and adjust effectively to changes.”

It is no surprise then that more employers are realizing that if they want to attract top talent from Gen Z, then offering remote work arrangements and flexible scheduling is non-negotiable.

Social Impact and Company Values Does Matter!
Gen Z demands a certain level of corporate responsibility and standards when it comes to hiring decisions. They prioritize companies that adhere to social justice initiatives and fair treatment of workers, so it is important to show a commitment to such values during the recruitment process.

Tech organizations need to be more proactive in displaying their company values, such as providing access to mental health support and childcare services, as well as highlighting ambitious diversity goals. Gen Z candidates will be drawn towards organizations that can demonstrate their commitment to inclusion and sustainability.

Tech companies should also consider the communities they are working with and make sure they are giving back in meaningful ways. This can involve fundraising efforts or community engagement activities which will not only benefit the local areas but also show potential candidates how their work can impact society on a deeper level.

Gen Z’s preferences are transforming the way tech hiring is done. Companies need to adjust their recruiting and hiring practices to keep up with an increasingly digital workplace. Gen Z wants to work with the latest technology, and they expect to find it in the workplace.

They are also looking for meaningful work and have an affinity for informal work cultures. This means that companies need to focus on creating an attractive work culture and provide the latest technologies to remain competitive.

Finding the right fit for the job is critical, but so is the application process. If a company wants to stand out, they need to think creatively and create an application process that caters to the preferences and needs of Gen Z.
