Are You Built For Tech?

Jobs in the tech industry are expected to become exponentially over the next few years. All businesses have to change in some way to keep up with the future of work.

Is the tech industry right for you? Here’s what you should know before considering this career path.

You Need To Be Open To Continuously Learning.
In any field of work it’s easy to get comfortable and feel like you know everything. You have done your research; you’ve read the books and listened to people who have been there before. But in this fast-paced world where change is constant, staying ahead requires endless learning and adapting your expertise.

The only constant in the tech industry is change. If you work in tech, you should be comfortable with the idea of your expertise can become out-of-date in a few years. You also have to consider jumping into the next massive adjustment. If you have no interest in continuous learning or believe exams are part of the past, this is not the way to go. But if you’re excited about the role you play in building the future, then technology is definitely for you.

Fast Pace, Big Rewards.
If you look at your options, the tech industry offers a fast-paced career track and plenty of opportunity for upward mobility. This means lots of opportunity for growth, and higher salaries than most industries.

For some people the constant change is exhausting, for others it is exhilarating. The fast pace of Tech careers means more opportunities for advancement.

You Don’t Need To Be A “Techie” To Work In Tech.
The roles available in tech vary from company to company, but often include marketing, sales, HR and project managers as well as roles like data analyst and researchers.

Technology is an immense term. Many jobs require technical know-how, but this isn’t always what you might think: Tech programming the next big thing. Different companies has different roles in the tech industry. Contrary to myth, it takes soft skills such as connection, collaboration, critical thinking, and flexibility to pull of such a role.

You Should Be Comfortable Working Virtually.
Tech employers have traditionally welcomed remote work arrangements. Although specific working arrangements vary from company to company, most technical jobs encourage employees to manage their time and prioritize their tasks.

It Can Be A Purpose.
As technology professionals, there are many things we can do to give back to society at large. All you need is to choose the right role.

For example, the healthcare industry relies on new tech modernization that has served the common good. During the pandemic, we’ve seen waves of governments and healthcare providers using technology to enable everything from remote patient consultations to diagnostic testing. The solution is made possible thanks to technology people, developers, and solution architects.  There are many ways to do this important work, both inside and outside of technology. However, those interested in making a difference through innovation may want to consider this path.

Is technology the right industry for you?

If you want to be part of an ever-changing field full of new discoveries and possibilities, one where you never get bored and where you have the opportunity to make difference, your answer might be yes.  Tech will guide you to where you are. It takes a lot of work, but if you are willing to adapt and learn, you will succeed.
